#12     In 1861, my Great grandfather, David William Leaker, was sworn in as a police officer. He had many narrow escapes of his life.  On time he and his partner were to keep order in a theater. They were fired upon or shot at.  Then another incident in 1871 he was called to break up some houses of “ill fame” and at a liquor store.
